Alrighty, first things first. I'm making what I hope will be a spectacular 60th-birthday cake for "Palf" and I just made homemade buttercream icing for the FIRST.TIME.EVER. And, I have to confess, I will NEVER go back to store-bought. Seriously. I used this recipe & excellent pictorial:

All I can say is WOW. Love it. I will post pics of the cake when it is done...I have to make the fondant next and finish the cake tiers (takes a while when you only have one pan!). It is going to be pistachio-butter cake with pistachio-cream filling and a fondant finish of a golf scene! Can't wait!
